The brief was to develop a regional shopping centre in a node of significant importance that caters to the demographic needs of the area. Shopping centres bring convenience, choice, and community upliftment to the rural area in which they are situated – typically tenanted by supermarkets, clothing, banking, and furniture retailers. The design allows for split vehicular and pedestrian traffic, which created an opportunity to incorporate plenty of rest areas for shoppers.
Entertainment, dining, and leisure are the nutrients that are enriching this retail centre. Expanded common spaces create more points of convergence and grandeur. Rural shopping developments can provide much-needed impetus for transport and municipal infrastructure for essential services such as electricity, water, and sewerage. They can also spur on social responsibility initiatives that provide youth with skill development programmes that seek to help the surrounding communities that need it the most.
